I have occasional issues with subject detection and low light with the XH2S. It's not the XT5 but I imagine has similar issues.

With subject detection, the box will be over the subject but the focus isn't perfect. Like I took a picture of a cat and got the box over its eye but the focus was on its butt. I forgot the exact settings but if you use bird eye detect on 4k 120p video, the box will go over the bird but then the focus won't change at all. I'm fine with focusing the old fashioned way but I may only find out it was out of focus when I get home and see it on a computer. The system induces a reliance on subject detection with false positives. I wish the threshold for focus confirm was higher and it would just tell me if it can't get a lock.

In burst rate even on focus priority it does seem to randomly hunt for no good reason. So five shots will be perfect, then one will just move the focus point randomly. It's overactive. With the high burst rate I'll still get good shots I just have to check focus as well instead of just focusing on composition.

Sometimes in low light I would get a focus confirm, but I find out later absolutely nothing is in focus.

I also have a Z9 and Z6II. The Z9 doesn't detect the animals as far away as the Fuji, but when it does it is more reliable. It also doesn't randomly hunt in burst, but it is more than twice the price and has had multiple firmware updates. The Z6 and Z7 series had numerous firmware updates too. The Z6 has some kind of green light that is low light focus assist and it seems to be more consistent. But it's not perfect either, it just has different problems. The compact lens selection is lacking and the video specs are getting very dated.

I would think getting the box on the subject is the hard part, then fine tuning the focus should be easier. I'm confident we'll get a firmware update.

But these shots are 5%, maybe 15% at most of what I use it for. Most of my shots are street or travel photography and everything is great. I can do 1/2 second handheld long exposures and 4k 120p is amazing. I don't know if I'm imagining things but the dynamic range seems really good too, much better than my XT4 and maybe just a little worse than the full frame Nikons.
