The R3 eyecup is uber thin and easy to rip as well. My nephew ripped my R5 cup, and it took 3 or 4 months, but I ordered it through Canon. So, if you want the stock one, just call their service support line and order it. The cup is pretty cheap, but the shipping is expensive, all said it was around $25.
Turns out the third party one is very good. it took a little getting used too as I am not accustomed to this type. probably a good option for the left eye shooter too.
I thought I would give it a chance after I saw yours, so I ordered one a few days back. But I was curious about something though, how does the long hood affect the eye sensor? Does it make the sensor more sensitive to changes, less, or the same?
It’s made no difference at all to the sensor. It does block more peripheral light when your eye is to the cup.
Cool, I was hoping it might allow a slightly further distance from the cup to keep the EVF active. Every once in a while, I get contorted and the eye cup comes away by an inch or so and the EVF turns off. Would have been nice to see that helped by a half inch (10mm) or so.
