Full Moon / Mars conjunction / Mars 2022 opposition
7

Tried out my new-to-me-today Canon M6ii refurb on the Moon-Mars "Triple Treat": the December Full 'Cold Moon' happened within an hour of a conjunction with the planet Mars, and within six hours of the 2022 Opposition of Mars (closest approach to Earth)! (Most of the USA saw Mars go behind the Moon, but the East Coast and us in Florida only saw a close approach.)

Main image taken with Canon M6ii, Meade ETX-125 telescope, Viltrox 0.71x EF - EOS M2 speed booster (resulting in a 1350mm equivalent f11 lens), single exposure of 1/125 second at ISO 100. Very unusual for the Moon and any planet to be in the same telescopic field of view.

Closeup inset of Mars taken with Full-spectrum modified Canon M200 with no filters, Meade ETX-125 telescope, Kiron 2x MC7 teleconverter in MInolta MD mount, Fotasy Minolta MD to EOS M adapter (equivalent 3800mm f30 lens), best 1500 frames stacked from a 5-minute 4k video (M200 crops 4k video to pixel-level magnification); processed with PIPP, Autostakkert, sharpened using Registax wavelets, and final processing with DxO PL.

North is 'up' in both the main image and the inset. Best viewed by clicking the image in a PC or Mac web browser, then zooming to 100% magnification.
