It’s not true to say the new DeepPrime XD noise reduction in PL6 is a great improvement over the previous DeepPrime noise reduction in PL5. Reading posts in the DxO forum and various reviews online indicates that DeepPrime XD only preserves detail a little better in a few specific cases, e.g. Astro /dark skies. So for me the upgrade is not great value IMHO.

Agreed, it's marginal and there's generally only a noticeable difference for pixel peepers (like me ) - not necessarily limited to 'specific cases', but more apparent with higher ISO's.

Below image compares R5 shot at ISO 6400 with DeepPRIME (left) vs DeepPRIME XD (right).

Make of the results what you will, but do note the usual screen capture limitations apply.

Image crop of 200% applied...

The right hand image appears to have had more sharpening applied. As it’s a crop at 200%, I doubt any difference could be discerned in a print

It’s certainly sharper with more detail, but there is also less noise present as well (check the backgrounds).  The two normally run counter to each other, but that’s not the case here.
