So I suppose my question is, what do you guys think? Is the AF firmware kind of undercooked and likely to get a big improvement in future firmware updates? Or maybe Fuji should issue detailed guidelines covering specific shooting scenarios and types of lenses, to help users minimize errors? I don't know.

That is the point The Fuji AF system is very good to excellent BUT you do need to enter to all settings : AFC, single point, zone or other. CFG 1 to 5, customisable CFG 6 With my numerous experiments I also noticed some interaction between AFC options and eye tracking performance in terms of stickyness to eye. Did not tried on other recognition processes.

And the Fuji documentation is reallly  unsufficient not to mention that the complete manual exists only in english, no spanish no french versions (and Fuji Europe never replied to my contact mails ......)

Some competitors have definitly a simpler AF system.
