22 years ago photographers were producing beautiful images with 3 megapixel DSLR cameras.  There was no live view.  The rear screen was tiny.  You could shoot as fast as one capture every few seconds.

10 megapixels is more than enough to make an 8x10" print at 300 pixels per inch.

Modern cameras certainly have more convenience features.  This makes it easier to take good quality images.  Modern cameras also are better in low light.

If you want to improve your images, you may get a better return on your money by investing in education rather than gear.

Of course, getting new gear can be more fun...
