Touchscreen Durability?

I apologize if the has been asked-and-answered several times; I scanned the thread and didn't find it.

I have to problems with the Nikon tilting touchscreen display and a fully articulating screen wouldn't have much of an advantage for me, but as I consider buying a ZII, I'd like to know if the touchscreen requires some kind of protection from incidental scratches or other damage that could mar it.

I don't mean damage from dropping it or otherwise abusing the screen, just through routine use like rubbing against a (plastic) zipper when pulling it out of or putting back into a holster in the field, or not noticing a hard speck of dirt on it when cleaning it.

If it needs to be protected, how do you do it?

NOTE:  I use an Olympus Tough TG-6 with a touchscreen that's notoriously susceptible to scratches, and the screen protection films I've used interfere with touch control responses, hence my question and concern.
