The FE 50mm F1.8 has a primitive DC focus motor. Those motors just are about the worst performers for the focus hunt required for constrast-detect AF.

I will second the Sigma 45 recommendation by the others. The native Sigma lenses have stepper motors which tend to work much better with contrast-detect. Opinions on this lens do vary, but now it is very affordable. It wider than the other 45mm primes I've used.

The little Samyang 35mm F2.8 can also be pretty good and it has a stepper motor.

I'll recommend the larger, older 28-70 OSS over the 28-60 as I generally find stabilization useful.
