why do all 'pro' photobook services insist on srgb?

I naively thought providing adobe rgb or even pro photo pngs or tiffs was the standard for the photobook printing services but they seem to insist on jpg and srgb, some accept png, some adobe rgb but do convert them to srgb in their end client photobook creation software. as all of them make some minor optimizations, shouldn't they start with the largest color space and a near lossless format?
