… The Sigma camera company is essentially a failure. It had a brilliant and unique sensor in the original vintage Foveon, lost much of that quality in the Merrill by sacrificing colour in pushing resolution. Realized that the colour was wretched in the Merrills, so pushed colour in the Quattro- causing over saturation and simplified colour. Then, abandoned their brilliant and unique sensor altogether, and followed the crowd- unsuccessfully.

speak for yourself mate, the quattros i own are brilliant cameras

… Fronko: That is not the point. Are they better images than from the vintage Foveon? And could you describe how?

I can describe how the photos from my SD Quattro H are better than the images from my SD 14. They are less noisy (even though I loved my SD 14 for how little noise in produced in my images), the color seems more realistic, and the images have much more detail in them.

Oh, and the newer camera works faster. The SD1 Merrill worked about the same as the SD 14 did, but the review screen on that camera was nicer, larger, and offered more of everything (improved screen). The SD1 also did not overheat like the SD 14 did (even when shooting the sunrise, so the day was not hot yet). Oh, and the viewfinder was better in the SD1 Merrill, and it had weather seals, though luckily my SD 14 never failed because of moisture in the camera.

An improvement of the SD Quattro H over the SD1 Merrill was the fact that I could shoot faster, review my images faster, and use SFD mode. The image quality is slightly better too. The 25.5 MP images from my SD Quattro H are the best from any of my cameras that I have ever owned. They have the most detail, the best color (though the color from the SD1 Merrill was very good too), and there just seems to be something about them that they look more real, sort of like the reality of the photos from the SD1 Merrill, and my SD 14 before that. I loved the color and detail from my Canon 5 D too, but it really just doesn't come close to the color and detail from my SD Quattro H. If I could have it, I would get an L mount version of the SD Quattro H today, especially if it had a faster processor, and the camera would work even faster than the original SD Quattro H. I'd love to see Sigma put an articulating tilt screen on it too. Wi-fi would be another thing I'd like to see, with Wi-Fi tethering added to Sigma Capture Pro (and Sigma Capture Pro for Android OS, so I could use it on my phone and an Android tablet - I don't care for Apple products anymore, because Apple seems to be against freedom of speech, with their threat to not allow the Twitter App on their app store anymore, so I don't care if Sigma makes a version for iOS or not).
