If I wanted a traditional camera with everything permanently attached, I would go for a Panasonic S5.

Hi Don

I have a S1 and I had a loaner S5. The S5 wasn't what I was hoping for and the S1 is excellent but doesn't have the FP's IQ and it's really heavy.

I'm thinking about a Sony. Lots of Sigma E-mount lenses, and 61 MP.

Hi David

The FP-L has the same sensor as the Sony at a lower price. The new Sony looks like and probably is a Sigma FP-L with a grip and a viewfinder. It just cost 4 times more.

Yes, I think somebody at Sony got an fp L and said "We have to make a camera like this". I don't think they understood the design -- the whole point is to make a core sensor module with everything optional. Not with a fixed grip and viewfinder.

What would make a big difference would be a leaf shutter lens, like the one for the Pentax 67 medium format film camera (which had a very slow moving shutter).

Don

Don I understand what you're saying, but wouldn't Sigma be better off getting Sony to make a stacked 61 MP sensor just like the 50 MP sensor in the A1, because it would let them make a camera that can do 8K video, shoot with a faster electronic shutter, so they could offer it with a faster flash sync, no matter what L mount lens you use, and it would virtually eliminate rolling shutter affect, all in one upgrade. Then they wouldn't have to make any L mount lenses that are only compatible with their newest camera, and which can't work right with any other L mount camera?

(Sorry for making such a long sentence.)

I don't think Sigma's purchase orders from Sony are large enough for them to be able to specify custom designs. The sensor in the A1 is of course better, but an fp containing it would likely be too expensive for the market; and Sony may in any case want to keep it for themselves for a while. No doubt things will progress over the coming years, provided there isn't a complete collapse of the world economy.

I don't understand your remark about lenses. People with Panasonic cameras seem to be happy using Sigma lenses.
