Z autofocus — this setup possible?

I have a Z6, but sadly haven’t used it much the last year or two :-/

I configured it for back button focus, but haven’t got used to it yet. I never used a Nikon DSLR so I’m not sure what this 3D thing is that people have been missing.

Anyway — what I’d like is to point the central focus point on my (moving) subject [ie. point the camera straight at the subject], then half press the shutter to activate continuous focus and tracking, and then fully depress when I want to take the photo.

ie. initiate target acquisition and tracking with one (half) a button press.

The camera should then track the subject as it moves around the frame, and changes distance (hmm, sounds like 3D) until I fully depress.

Can the Z6 be configured to do this?

I don’t want to faff around with a bloody joystick trying to put a box on a wildly moving subject!

I don’t want to push one button on the back to bring up a box, then another button to actually focus and a third to take the shot.

Nikon Z6
