Re: EF 400mm f/5.6L USM image quality

I had a EF 400 f/5.6 for about a year. I sold it not long after I purchased a RF 100-500. I liked the lens, nice size and weight. I personally did not miss IS a lot, but I was generally shooting on a R5 with fast shutter speed and ISO to match the conditions. If I was shooting in low light conditions IS would have been nice. I personally am not a big prime lens person. I prefer zoom for flexibility with wildlife. Plus I will never be spending $10K+ on a lens, or older EF 500 that weighs over 7lbs.

Personally I would get the EF 100-400 II if the price is reasonable. Generally most good used copies are pretty expensive. The EF 400 f5.6 is nice but it is a very old lens design. The EF 100-400 II is one of the zoom lenses Canon makes.
