I don't really care about IS, I can bring a tripod or just shoot on sunny days.
Unlike others, I am looking at affordable good image quality lens to do zoo shooting and that sort of thing.

Just get a 100-400 II. Superior to the 400/5.6 in every way except size and weight, and even there it is still very light and easy. It is vastly more versatile and practical. Does it cost more? Sure it does.

There are two ways to buy a good lens for the tasks you have in mind.

(a) Spend good money on a half measure that doesn't really do the job properly. Put up with frustration and missed opportunities for a long time, or maybe a short time. Then throw it away and buy the proper tool for the job.

(b) Just buy the right lens and be done with it. This way is quicker and much cheaper.
