Is the R6 Mark II a step *up* from the R5?

There's always going to be some overlap during these generational jumps. For example, the R5 was largely better than the 1DX Mark III, and they were release in the same generation.

Then you have the feature envy. The R10 and R7 have some features that R5 owners want, so does that suggest the R10 or R7 are a step up? Most will say no, but depending on what you want and how you use it, those features can be significant.

Indeed they're not, other than in some very specific ways (I have an R7). But in the case of the R6 Mark II I'm wondering if the accumulated pluses outweigh the quite short list of minuses, if we assume the rather obvious MP difference is not mission-critical.

The question isn't or wasn't if we ignore the critical elements of one system is the other system better?  Will the battery grip from the R5 fit the R6ii? (It may do I don't know) Or if the requirements are (no matter what else) that the system must be able to obtain >30 images per second then the new system is the only one anyone can choose.

I don't understand the question really.

Plainly speaking, the R6 II may be a better buy for you than an R5, just as the R5 is still a better buy than a R6 II for me, but you'll have to weigh that out on your own.

I think if I was buying today and only had the R7 to keep as a second body, the R6II would make a very strong case for itself. But I have an R5 so it would mean taking a sizeable hit on that.

I'm sure you could trade in the R5 for the new camera if it has sub systems that you must have or are worth the cost of the trade in. What does it do that you need?
