Z6 II Subject tracking in any mode?

Hi there, gearing up for a Z6 II purchase to join my D4s, and have a question about subject tracking. I played with one at the store and figured out to map fn1/2 to enable subject tracking. Really easy compared to pressing the okay button.

Anyways, question is, when subject tracking is mapped to a custom function button, be it 1 or 2, can it be enabled regardless of what focus mode your in? I know by design it works by default in auto area af, but what if I'm in wide area AF and then click fn for subject tracking, will anything happen? Same with dynamic area D9 or single point even, if subject tracking can be enabled in those modes, too via the shortcut custon function mapping. Just want to be sure I understand the possibilities and/or limitations

I forgot to test this specific scenario out when at the store myself as I had to leave by the time i figured out it could be customized to fn1 , so hence asking here.

Thank yoU!
