Experience with Samyang/Rokinon tilt shift on Fuji X

One example photo

Here is one example of an image taken using shift using the Kipon  tilt-shift adapter for Nikon F mount lenses.  The lens used was the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm, manual focus version.  The photo is in the Storkyrkan church in Stockholm (Stockholm Cathedral).

I don't know how much shift I used as I don't record that information.  However, it was probably a lot, close to 8 or 10mm.  I base that on the fact that I still had to use a bit of software perspective correction in ACR to remove the last of the converging verticals.

The point to see here is that the 14mm Samyang is known for having quite a bit of mustache distortion.  You can see it plainly on the right edge.  More importantly, you can see that the distortion has moved up the image with the shift of the lens so that it is no longer centered.  The same would be true if the lens had simple barrel or pincushion distortion.  You can't use the lens correction profile provided by Adobe as it assumes that the lens is centered.  This makes it almost impossible to remove in post through normal means.

So, the Kipon adapter works perfectly.  But you need to use it with very low distortion lenses if you have easy to spot straight lines.  Using a dedicated tilt/shift lens from Canon or Nikon are better options.  However, Nikon's is only 19mm, the Canon is a little better at 17mm.  For APS-C you sometimes need a wider lens.
