The older models of the rx100 series like the rx100m5a can be had at great prices for NIB cameras, less than $500. This gives a very fast lens and small body with articulating lcd, viewfinder and lots of fun features built in. Can shoot raw, get fast bursts and Sony's great AF from top of line models. Think if Nikon put Z9 AF into a Coolpix camera, that's what Sony did with rx100 series above v, the VA, vi and vii. But only va has the fast lens and it makes a marked difference.

I've always been attracted to ultra small cameras and have them from Olympus Nikon Canon and now Sony. Sony wins easily. But newest rx100 models like vii are too expensive.

Yes, but image quality clearly lags behind even this "old tech" Canon 6d Mk i from 2012

Delighted with this absolutely tiny Pancake, the EF 40mm F/2.8

Shame that the G1x or G5x lines at Canon or the RX100 line at Sony are left abandoned

What we want is a mini-R7 (in a G1x Mk iv body) really...

The rx100va shoots raw or jpg with various color profiles built in. It depends on one's interpretation of 'image quality'. Also the sensor is quite nice with good dynamic range. But though it's lens is fast opening the door for more opportunities and built in nd filter, it's the AF in that camera that really shines.
