For the last several years I've shot the DA* 60-250 mounted on the Pentax HD 1.4x teleconverter. The combo is a bit more expensive but for me the ability to crop using this combo is unreal. I shoot a lot of boat racing and upgraded to the K-3 III this past summer. This shot is cropped from the original shot. The hyperfocal distance for this shot is 1590.448 ft or 484.77 m. I've been extremely happy with this setup. I use my 18-55mm kit lens for closer shots.

And I suspect the K3iii helps a bit here too... in focus and nice rendering at an exposure index of 3200, even cropped.

I was getting compatible results with my K-3. I will say the keeper rate is way better with the K-3 III. I was NOT disappointed with my K-3. My reason for updating bodies was my K-3 is at about 190,000 shutter clicks and didn't want to risk having a body fail in the middle of summer. This one is ISO 1600. It was a brighter day in 2019.
