It most definitely is the reflection of the front of the objective lens and the styrofoam cup diffuser around it. It is clearly seen in this test stack (just received a new 4x objective) of the same subject. BTW, very happy with the new objective.

Weird, at first glance I see an Ewok. It takes a few seconds to resolve into an spider.

what is an Ewok, a weird fantasy character, star wars ?

Exactly.

Tell me you don’t see the resemblance…

Are you going to tell us which objective, or keep us in suspense?

His opening post mentioned Nikon CFI 10x , its reflection off a tiny spherical mirror might look as in the image.

And his latest post said "just received a new 4x objective".

p.s. Nikon makes about a dozen different CFI Plan10x objectives: everything from the Achromatic that goes for about $200, on up through the Epi, Pol, BD, Apo, Fluor, UV-VIS-IR, and even a "Super Fluor" at about $5,000.

The term "mirrorless" is totally obsolete. It's time we call out EVIL for what it is. (Or, if you can't handle "Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens" then Frenchify it and call it "LIVE" for "Lens Interchangeable, Viewfinder Electronic" or "Viseur électronique").
