I have an R5 and I am wanting to replace my 7D with the R7. R5 will still be my main camera on event shoot and landscapes.

1. How good is the kit lens 18-150mm? Is it worth the extra $ since I get to save $100 if I get the kit. I have mostly EF lenses and 1 RF lens (800mm) Been happy with my EF lenses. Thought the 18-150mm might be a good travel lens if I need to travel light on business trips. What say you?

the 18-150 wasn’t even on my radar screen though if you have the need and understand the limitations you might want to consider it. FWIW, I’ve found the R7 doesn’t play as well with adapted ef lenses compared to the R5/R3.

I think that depends on the particular lens. Some EF lenses are even better on the R7 than they were on the 7D2 for instance. Take the EF100-400II, it was superb on the 7D2 and 5D3, on the R7 it is still superb but also works very well with the 1.4*. My EF-S 60, EF-S10-22 and 17-55 work OK but the last two suffer a drop in fps when in ES mode. The 10-22 and 17-55 are not lenses I use often and certainly not at high frame rates so it is not an issue.

Bordshooter states the limitations of hit EF500 F4 which again looses some FPS compared to on his DSLRs, but the images he produces still look fantastic.

I would be interested to hear of any issues you have faced?

Adapted 24-105, 500 is ii, 35 f1.4 to name a few. All work flawlessly on the R5 but comparatively struggle on the R7 in terms of af and iq.

I've used the 500 II on an R7 and it seems to work fine. Any difference in image quality is probably down to the different sensors but seemed to take some severe pixel peeping to see. Some have issues with AF speed in low light on the R7 but it appears that can be shown to not be an issue if EXP Sim is turned off. Not checked that myself yet but seems interesting if Canon do work that way around.

2. What type of SD cards do you recommend. Will also do some 4K video with this camera.

Ive been using Lexar V60’s without trouble though you might want to consider some V90’s.

Thanks

Anytime.
