I am completely happy with Canon, and have been from the G2, 300D, 450D, 7D,7D2, 6D and 5D3 up to and including my current R5 and R6.

I have only ever bought one third party lens which totally underwhelmed me in its AF. I was able to get a complete refund on it and bought myself a Canon lens.

So I really don’t care about 3rd party lenses in all honesty, one bad experience is enough for me.

My EF lenses work brilliantly with the adapter and I am more than happy with my RF lens choices.

I've been a happy Canon user for years too, but just out of curiosity: When and which was your 3rd party lens?

Tamron 150-600. I had been waiting for the EF 100-400 MKII which wasn’t looking likely for a while. Having heard ‘good things’ about the Tamron I thought I’d give it a go. Optically it was good, but oh dear me its AF was disastrous!

A couple of months after buying it I contacted my supplier, as I heard there was a firmware update for the lens. They asked me to return the lens to them which I did and they gave me a full refund! Shortly after that Canon released the 100-400 MKII.

Alright, I asked because I also had a bad experience (but nearly 10 years ago) with a 3rd party lens, but fortunately, I gave a second chance, and ended up happy about it! My go-around lens became a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for my APS-C DSLR, and when I replaced it for a FF mirrorless, a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 stabilized (the older one) came to its place. Happy with them.

And another aspect that evolved A LOT on these years is the AF on the newer mirrorless cameras, compared to the DSLR back then.

The 3rd party lens seem to have been through a big evolution on the last years, even on more critical for AF like longer zooms. 8, 10 years ago I would probably pass on the 3rd party for my plane spotting lenses. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't do the same! And that's where I can't see Canon pushing that away as a good thing, as a consumer.
