EOS M is an entry level system. I won't expect it to get good video feature especially when video feature is a money grab spec now.
Unless you are pro, just get the M + Magic Lantern + stabilizer. This package should be more than enough for amateur and very very cheap.
At best, Magic Lantern is a kludge. Fancy new firmware won't change the fact that you are working with a sensor that is a decade old and has very slow readout speeds. Pretty much any reasonably modern 4k capable camera, even a smartphone, will produce better results with far less effort.
If someone already has an original M and want to play around with Magic Lantern, great. To suggest that someone should seek out an original M solely for the purpose of going down the Magic Lantern rabbit hole is just a really bad idea.
I agree there. A pair of M6ii bodies and a Ninja V cover a lot of my indoor video use. But additional improvements can always help. I actually had an original EOS M when it was still available new on heavy discount. Sold it eventually. The EOS M and ML could be fun to mess with, but I wouldn't likely use it much with how bad the video AF is. Now if the M6ii could get a port eventually that would be super cool and it would have decent hardware to back up the custom firmware.
Canon is basically there technology wise and could have given EF-M users features they released on the R7/R10 in a revised M6ii and m50ii, but maybe the financial aspects didn't work out in their favor, who knows. With that and restricting 3rd party lens makers, I don't personally have a path forward with Canon gear right now.
