I am completely happy with Canon, and have been from the G2, 300D, 450D, 7D,7D2, 6D and 5D3 up to and including my current R5 and R6.

my 1st proper digital camera was a brand-new 20D (of only 2 new bodies i ever buy new) then about 4 years later i added a 5Dmki and ran both but the 20D did not get much use. then i got a 40D in a deal for some work i did but i could not get as nice photos from it as the 20D (that's another story). so sold it, then about 9 years ago i had to carry 18month old twins through an airport and there was no way i could take the 5D so i get a Sony NEX3c, hated the colours but it was able to adapt a lot of old MF lenses that my DSLRs could not.. i replaced the sony with a SL1/100D and that fixed the colour problem but now had lots of Canon FD and Minolta and other MF lenses that don't fit anything so i try a fuji but i did not get on with the X-trans (thats another story) so got an eos M1..back to nice colours again but it was annoying to use so i buy a M2 from japan as not sold in UK(1 of the twins has this now ) and finally replaced it with an M5 which was my last APS-c body..

back to the 5D it never got upgraded til very recently as i did not go for the 5Dii as the same AF as mki and it was the AF that was its main weakness, the mkiii would have solved the AF as it came into the budget but by now Nikon and sony had much better sensors and i nearly went to the dark side and got a D750 to replace the 5D and a 3xxx to replace the 100D but after weeks of research with Nikon golden oldy lenses to replace my EF lenses although Nikon did not have a replacement for 2 of my most used lenses the EF100mm F2 and the 35MMf2IS.. then i realized that 1/2 the Nikon lenses would not AF on the little 3xxx and new Nikon lenses not AF on older bodys (but would on the 750) so the F mount was broken so i not bother ..the M5 got the most use now but its AF was not very good in fact the 20D and 5D would probably track much faster ..so i think to bugger it i up my self imposed budget for a body by 3X and got an R6 gray import ..it was cheaper than second-hand R6 on ebay ..the eldest sons girlfriend still use the 100D i still have the 20D and 5D..i may get another small body,an RP or a R10 or something

looking back if i had my time again i would still stay with the canon although i could probably be happy with Nikon Z..but i think i would miss the EF lens catalog

I have only ever bought one third party lens which totally underwhelmed me inbut its AF. I was able to get a complete refund on it and bought myself a Canon lens.

So I really don’t care about 3rd party lenses in all honesty, one bad experience is enough for me.

My EF lenses work brilliantly with the adapter and I am more than happy with my RF lens choices.

the EOS M is not dead and wont be for a long time ....as long as you don't want a flagship camera with a VF...if that's the case it died sometime ago
My 5D IS a MK1 classic

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer

If you wait for a camera that will tick all your boxes ....by then you will have more boxes to tick..... so the wait continues .....David Appleton
