Since it became clear that Canon is going to let M die, I've spent a lot of time looking at some of the other options out there--Fuji, Panasonic, and Sony.

There are some outstanding Black Friday deals on the Panasonic S5. I think I might order one and see how I like it. It's about the same size as the R7, and is the same price now that it's on sale. It has similar video features, but has full-frame image quality and a much better lens lineup, and isn't too big or heavy. The L mount is supported by four different camera manufacturers and several lens manufacturers--seems like it has a solid future.

Depending on how I like it I will sell off either some or all of my EF-M gear, and all of my EF/EF-S gear.

The R6ii is tempting in some ways, but it's $1k more than the S5, and the lens lineup is huge and super expensive. I could get an adapter and use the two EF lenses I have but those wouldn't be enough.

Canon's actions are still perplexing to me. I understand it is more efficient for them to switch to one mount, but having users locked in your system is everything. With them abandoning EF-M, my options are now wide open and I just don't think I can afford RF and the lens lineup won't work for me. If they allowed Sigma and other 3rd party RF lenses OR made an EF-M to RF-S adapter I would probably jump to RF, but as it stands, I don't see how I can put together an affordable and not overly-cumbersome RF kit.
