Re: $500 Tamron 70-180 repair bill

Wrote a very stern email after I had sent the lens in to Tamron after the zoom ring locked up AGAIN.

I think I addressed it to president of Tamron and an assistant got back to me. They said that they were replacing the lens with a new one.

Even though the 70-180 zoom ring has not snapped again for several months I am going to buy the Sony 70-200/2.8 GM II because I can't afford to have some other improperly engineered component on the Tamron break during an important shoot. I will keep the 70-180 as backup. I only got it as the original 70-200 GM was very heavy.

I also have the 1.4x teleconverter and will be glad to use as I do with 100-400GM.

Hi

Zoom ring got stuck six months after impact damage that put a dime size ding on the zoom mechanism. Tamron just charged $500 for repair. Is this typical? Lens is $1099 currently. Can you negotiate the price as with shipping both ways total is about $530.

I have the same problem. They askef for 800$ here for repair.
