Similarly, the big brother of the EF 50 1.4, the EF 100mm F/2 USM is also very small and sharp!

Autofocus is extremely fast, compared to my fujifilm glass.
At f1.4, sharpness is not overwhelming and depth of field is extremely narrow. You can't get more than one eye in focus; customers will complain; picture looks not sharp to them if only one eye is in focus.
At f2.0 sharpness becomes better, depth of field becomes larger; I feel this is the optimum of apertures when I need to separate object from background
At f5.6 sharpness is overwhelming. This is the ultimate aperture for shots in the studio with studio background plain white or dark grey.
Yes, Canon is known for its AF know-how .. Not bad to couple a Fuji body (lovely kits really) with a Canon relatively old lens that you can find cheap as 2nd hand and which will probably deliver the same IQ as a much more expensive lens in the latest Fuji line-up
Yes, the EF 50mm F/1.4 is rather soft at F1.4 and depth of field is narrow.. But it's not because your lens can do it.... that you should shoot a portrait at F/1.4
Agreed on F/5.6 .. this "old" lens from early 90s is very sharp at 5.6
From F/4 (to compare with the zoom) and at any lower aperture (higher in number .. F/5.6 to F/11..) this "old' 50 1.4 is actually sharper (much) than my much newer EF 24-105 F/4 IS Mk ii (advantage of a Prime lens)

The EF 100mm F/2 USM could be like a "mini 135mm F/2 on your Fuji"
Canon PowerShot S30
Canon PowerShot G1 X
Canon EOS 6D
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5
Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM
