I was disappointed when the 50/85 came out. The R6 specs and price were prob the last straw. The 3rd party lockout was confirmation.

Anyone who says Canon's RF moves don't affect sales is delusional.

Yes, I’m sure some people are switching to Canon because of the unique RF offerings. I know that I would switch, if I were a Nikon or Sony shooter. The 16, 85, 50, 100-400, 70-200 F2.8 and 100 macro are all lenses that I couldn’t get in any other mount. Also the 600 and 800 F11, though I don’t have those.

I guess if you choose to limit what you want in a lens to things you can only find in RF mount then yes you have nowhere else to go. Which is probably just how Canon likes it.

While there's no such thing as an objectively bad lens anymore, I find it a little absurd to say lenses like the 50 1.8,

The RF 50mm f/1.8 stm is 260 grams,  so I guess anything heavier than that is declared to be too heavy.  For Canon you will have to carry the 950mm f/1.2 in your bag and change lenses to do your portraits, whereas the 400 grams Nikkor f/1.8 allows you to get sharp portraits wide open with one and the same lens and no lens changes. I would happily accept those 140 grams extra.

85/2

The only USP of this lens is it gives you half way macro. If you desperately need that in your 85mm you'll have to shoot Canon. I think it's a fake need for someone owning a 100mm macro too,

and even to a degree the 100 macro offer things that can't be found anywhere else.

This world is full of 100mm macro options really.

Both Sony and Nikon have 3 lens combos that offer the same capabilities with more advantages (usually AF speed and in some cases image quality) for the same money.

We all know the 85mm f/2.0 sells because Canon gives you no other portable RF option, and doesn't allow for third party manufacturer options.  If that half way macro was a truly great benefit Canon didn't need to forbid these options.

It's one thing to be positive about a camera system.... it's another thing to throw all objectivity out the window and damn near lie about it to show it in a positive light. That does a real disservice to people looking for genuine and objective perspectives they will use to make buying decisions. That is wrong IMO.

45 is more than enough, but 500.000 isn't
