I was just imagining myself nowadays on the situation I had 10 years ago when I decided to buy a DSLR, both for general use and for plane spotting.

At that moment, one of the key points to choose the Canon EF system was that the availability of lenses was huge, native + more affordable 3rd party with no adaptation and knowing more was to come! I didn't have much doubt that, inside of that bigger offering, I would find (probably many) combinations for my tastes.

But... if that moment would be right now, I would at least think twice about going into RF. I would say probably not.

I've been using an R system camera, liking it a lot, do not plan to change system,

maybe Canon is banking on that

but even if it's legit from Canon to choose their strategy, I can't see the fact of deliberately choosing the customers to have less options than before as a positive point.

its not a positive point for the customer's tody  ..but as its a declining market ..i just checked the numbers for another post, in 1989 22M units were sold so pre-digital boom in 2021 8M was sold, and as there is more profit in the lenses is it a possibility in 10 or 20+ years and as canon has the biggest buffer as they have 1/2 the market that canon may be the last man standing?

And yes, I think it's totally legit to discuss and yes, I hope they notice it somehow.

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer

If you wait for a camera that will  tick all your boxes ....by then you will have more boxes to tick..... so the wait continues .....David Appleton
