I have seen some nice work with the R. It appears that you need to use it within its parameters. Most say it is not really a sports/action camera but does many other things well.

It was a dog doing landscapes too. I never expected it to be much good for wildlife, but it was amazingly unreliable doing landscapes too. And the ergonomics were dreadful. Worst Canon camera since ... well, worst I have ever known, and I've owned a lot of them.

Given some of the photos I have seen from the R, that surprises me that it was not good for landscapes. I have heard that the ergonomics were so so.

I like the ergonomics, but they're different from a DSLR, not necessarily worse, but different. I bought a bargain 5Ds a couple of years after my EOS R and that really does have poor ergonomics in comparison. It all depends on what you're used to.

The 5Ds has no touchscreen, no articulated rear screen, no exposure simulation through the viewfinder, a viewfinder screen that can't show the true depth of field of fast apertures and is non-interchangeable, the joystick only moves orthogonally, not diagonally and can only select 61 focus points over the middle half of the image area, no colour histogram in the viewfinder, and needs to go to the rear screen to get focus magnification for critical manual focus or to chimp. It's really frustrating to work with sometimes.
