The basic problem facing any effort like this is that it is almost impossible to convert four distributed pixels into one to improve on a single locations in competition with three stacked pixel locations which are melded into 1. The result of the latter is a far better picture with no dropped pixel information. The problem is that reducing Foveon pixel size is a real challenge. Sigma has been working on a new full-frame chip for several years now. Kazuto has made it clear that he wants to do this. Timing is difficult.
