solenoids are a problem with the cheap pentax cameras, and those cameras should really be considered for light duty, or as your rain camera.

If you are commited to shoot alot staying away from k 30/50/70 models is something to consider.

That’s actually a shame, because I think the entry-level models are where Pentax distinguishes itself most. With the weather sealed bodies and kit lenses for example.

A shame? First, this series of cameras are as well sealed as most other companies' semi-pro bodies costing a whole lot more.

That’s… what I said. It’s where Pentax distinguishes itself.

I find it a shame (as in unfortunate) that those entry level bodies happen to have this solenoid problem.

Second, if a photographer is shooting a lot at a semi-pro or pro level, of course they should get a more robust body for which the cost will be considerably higher.

Maybe. At that level though, weather sealing/robustness if competitors becomes better as well.

Finally, the solenoid issue is reported to be considerably improved with better components in the more recent production. For under $600 the current K-70 is a very good offer.

Good.

I may be wrong, but I suspect you choose to interpret my post negatively, because I’m no longer with Pentax.

I guess, what I’ll do is wish you all the best and say goodbye.
