That’s actually a shame, because I think the entry-level models are where Pentax distinguishes itself most. With the weather sealed bodies and kit lenses for example.

A shame? First, this series of cameras are as well sealed as most other companies' semi-pro bodies costing a whole lot more. Second, if a photographer is shooting a lot at a semi-pro or pro level, of course they should get a more robust body for which the cost will be considerably higher. Finally, the solenoid issue is reported to be considerably improved with better components in the more recent production. For under $600 the current K-70 is a very good offer.
