One step at a time. Existing Pentax, Canon, and Nikon users may not be interested, but there is that pool of newcomers that would have selected elsewhere.

Does Canon not make entry level MILC? If not, don't you think it will be their highest priority as entry level DSLR becomes unavailable?

I don't know, and yes I do.

I think you're assuming that the split between DSLR and MILC is going to remain constant, and Pentax will by default will snag some of those DSLR customers. But I don't think that's a given. I see it more likely that the DSLR/MILC split will simply become more lopsided in favor of MILC, and Pentax will end up appealing to an ever smaller base.

I totally agree with you. Japan, where Ricoh seems to be focusing their interests, had gone predominately MILC years before any other region. I am referring to that portion of that small number who will refuse the move to MILC as Canon and eventually Nikon d/c DSLR, the group Ricoh is counting on. As the total pool of DSLR faithful continues to decline, if Ricoh captures even a small fraction of that 6000, say just 10% remains true to DSLR, and retains their current 300 (using September CIPA and May BCN data as an example) they have tripled their domestic volume (600+300). Obviously not a long term solution unless Ricoh offers products that attract.
