I use the Epson V700 scanner with (Gimp + Xsane (as a plug-in)). Check out if your scanner is in the Sane library (very likely).

Scans, reverses and corrects negatives all in one all in one program.

Xsane can also do standalone the reversal and a limited adjustment of the gradtion curve(s).

Free and available in PC, Apple and linux.
