Sweet spot on lens. Great thought. Can see that my favourite zoom is pretty distortion free at about 28mm

Agree about keeping horizontal, Use grid on focus to ensure that stay in line. Also useful guide for overlap

Great tip about back button focusing. Makes life so much simpler.

Realised that the test done on a zoom in my earlier round of tests was poor not because it was a zoom but because had knocked focus when swapping to manual.

After the fog cleared yesterday got out and did some more tests using a 35mm prime and an 18-135 at about 30mm. Handheld in portrait format. Processed in Lightroom with lens profile allocated.

Here's an example

No significant difference in quality compared to prime.

Better quality than shooting same with Sigma 10-20mm
