Hi Dunlin,
Lightroom strips out the EXIF from the Exported file but in the 'Library Module' under 'Metadata' your EXIF data is still there. I click on the radio buttons in my progam that I read from the 'Metadata' module in Lightroom then save the details, clicking on the Launch button in my program brings up the details of the pictures in notepad as seen below. (In italics)

I then Copy a segment (between the brackets)as seen above and Paste it into DPR's description bar, adding any descriptive notes afterwards.
Clever... I'm definitely interested.
