Mike,
Slightly OT question. You are doling out your photos quite slowly. Are you simply short of time to process or did you take twenty gazillion pictures and it is just taking time to go through?
Related, just out of curiousity, what percentage of pictures taken are you posting? Is this typical for you?
Cheers,
Doug
Doug,
Mike, first thanks for the detailed reply.
Go back some years and I was out taking photos regularly and posting them regularly, however in more recent times I've got out far less often and taken far fewer photos. Priorities change I guess.
Sounds familiar. I got a KP, retired, went on trips and photos went up. COVID comes along and photos go down
For me covid was just one variable, plenty of things occurring all at once slowed my photo taking
On the vacation I'm posting photos from I took some 1990 photos and I figure about 1 in 3 will end up in galleries.
For me that is a pretty high ratio. I am usually around in 6, although I am admitedly an innefficient photographer, I take many shots of the same thing expecting that I will only post one. Actually not many people I know are much about 20%, maybe 25% if trying, so you must be contemplating your photo taking more tan me
I'm not always at such a high ratio, it depends on the subject matter, how inspired I am and how well I pick through the photos. I've had times of 1 in 10 so I don't worry too much about the hit ratio so long as I had fun and like my own photos. I certainly get ideas before I start taking, but not always, I know when some of my photos are forced.
As I'm sure you'll recall I used to post a lot on this forum but in recent years have slowed down quite a bit, again different priorities.
By posting I am not strictly talking about preview, most of my photos do not end up here.
I'm never sure how it happens but sometimes you just shift from really active in some area to less active in it and before you know it things are different. I've been taken my time to edit these photos, but there are only 492 left to go through and quite a few finished galleries not yet posted on top of those that haven't even been started.
I guess I am a bit faster than you (it's not a contest). Got back a week ago from 11 days abroad with 1319 photos from three "cameras" - GR IIIx (~600), Q-S1 (~400) + phone (~200). So far filtered down to just over 200, and have processed about half in LR.
I got back from the vacation and had to prepare for 2 camera shows that turned into 3 within 4 weeks, knowing this I decided to take my time, if I'm in the mood I can blast through editing plenty of photos, but I can't keep that up for an extended time. I usually take about 2 minutes per photo from opening the RAW files, sifting and picking the photos I thing deserve to go in the gallery, editing them and saving them ready to be put into the gallery. However I should note that I can also be plenty lazy and find other excuses that delay how quickly I get through the photos.
That said I also don't want to flood the forum with my photos either, giving time for my posts to fade before I post more.
Actually I like the idea of a series of posts with a limited # of photos.
One of the reasons I don't photograph and post as much is several projects (photographic tools) I started pre-covid that got stalled by covid, my problem is I want so badly to complete these projects that other photography might distract me from finishing. However I'm stuck waiting on others to help me complete this tools as I don't have to skill to do it myself. Also over a year ago I disbanded my small local photography club over infighting and drama so I'm no longer deliberately organizing photographic outings. I also bailed on photographing autumn this year, sometimes its good to take a year off of certain subject matter. I am distracted enough as it is I guess. Here is hoping my projects get done sooner than later and I get back to posting new content more regularly.
Cheers,
Doug
