Actually one thought that crossed my mind was they may get rid of the mechanical shutter altogether, if they decide to use the stacked chip from the X-H2S instead of the 40MP one. May be a way to save enough size/weight for Ibis or the new battery.

It could make sense as it would enable uncompromised silent shooting, which would be fitting for the X-Pro line.

Again, just a thought, not sure how viable of a solution this is may be.

Actually, that’s a brilliant idea. Fuji talked about the way global shutter would allow them more flexibility with the gfx cameras, given the size of their shutter assembly.
With current technology it wouldn’t be an all round choice. However, the X-Pro line doesn’t need to cover all bases.

The more I think about it, the more I think it could be a reasonable choice for Fuji to explore, if they fail to get all the new tech they want in the camera body without substantially altering its current dimensions and weight.

Some may be against an electronic shutter only camera, arguing the mechanical shutter is part of the classic photographic experience. That's a legitimate point. It would be interesting to see what's the consensus, if people had to choose between let's say a mechanical shutter and having IBIS.

The X-Pro was always the bit more premium line in the X-series so the stacked sensor could make sense even from a pricing and segmentation perspective.

It may also allow Fuji to dilute costs associated with the 26MP stacked chip, without having to compromise the X-H2S package, since the X-Pro line is so different and will likely lack some cutting-edge specs.

Pop in the 26 MP stacked sensor and eliminate the mechanical shutter.  The read out rate of that will rival that of the Z9 which only has an electronic shutter.  Neat and clean and I like it.  It could buy size not only because of the physical size of the shutter but the control electronics. There is no reason the features of the XPro overlap the XH2 as far as frame rate.  However, the stacked sensor would allow elimination of the mechanical shutter which should open up the XPro to IBIS and potentially reducing the overall size a bit.
