I am currently using Eos R with Eos 200D. Eos R as main reportage and portrait body and 200D as second backup body and for product photography (for large DOF actually APS-C works great with sharp lens). Now I think about upgrade but I am not sure if bigger resolution of R7 would be advantage - most of my photos are in really small aperture like F13-F16 because of lot of DOF is needed. Even with 200D I have to sacrifice lot of sharpness because DOF so not sure if R7 would be better choice because of diffraction limited aperture. What is your opinion?

Well, part of me is straining at the leash to enthusiastically recommend the R7, but then the other more rational part of me started to ask "why?".

The R7 has a 6960 x 4640 sensor, the R10 is 'only' 6000 x 4000. But how often, if ever, would the 16% difference matter?

The R7 has IBIS, but presumably for product photography you're using a tripod and/or flash, so would IBIS be of any real value?

The R7 has a better viewfinder, but will you actually use the viewfinder, or will you use the LCD screen (as I almost always do for that sort of work)?

The R7 has two cards slots but that is probably not relevant.

The R7 has a bigger battery, but for product photography I almost always use external power. In any case it's hard to imagine when changing the battery would be a problem. So let's say that's also not relevant.

The R7 has a *much* faster USB connection - 10 Gbps vs 480 Mbps. At last we have a difference which might be worth something, if you work tethered.

So unless the faster USB would be a game-changer for you, realistically the R10 might do everything you need.

With your arguments I would buy M6 II...

Not sure why I didn't respond at the time, but since the thread has been bumped...

Funnily enough I actually use a 90D (effectively the DSLR version of the M6II) for my tabletop product photography. That's despite owning both an R5 and now an R7.
