New to the R world, coming from years of using 7Dii. Got an R7 and now I cannot open the new raw files on my system in either DPP or LR because the latest versions of those programs cannot run on the OS that I have and I cannot update my OS because my hardware is old and is already running the highest os it can support.
I have a perfectly nice late 2011 macbook pro that I retrofitted with a ssd and 16gb of ram and it's been working for me without a hitch. The highest OS it will run is High Sierra, but the newest DPP and LR which would support R7 files need to run on Big Sur.
Is there a work-around for me, short of buying a new computer? A way I can somehow convert the R7 raw files to tiff or dng or anything else usable so that I can edit them on my older versions of LR or DPP? I refuse to shoot only in jpeg and would be extremely sad to have to return my new R7 because I literally cannot work with the new raw files.
I had to say goodbye to my perfectly working 2009 iMac for the same reason. It was i7 had lots of RAM, but was not supported anymore. I bought the Studio and am so happy, BUT I understand your dilemma. I read you are waiting for the M2, so why don't you in the meantime shoot jpeg? I've read that many people are very happy with the R7 jpegs. It would only be temporary.

I agree. Also, if shooting CR3 plus jpeg, then one may change the jpeg by processing the CR3 file in the camera. Doing it in camera is not as convenient as on a computer, but simple things like changing white balance, noise reduction, and style can be done when doing raw processing in the camera.
