Just watched it - review seems generally quite favourable.
I initially dismissed this lens but it's been quietly growing on me for the past couple of weeks.
I would love to see some comparison shots between it and the 100-400 as well as with the 100-400+1.4x TC.
If there was a significant optical improvement over the 100-400+TC combo I could be very interested indeed. That's not to say that combo is weak (I have got some very favourable results with it) but the Tamron would be a one stop shop not to mention smaller/shorter.
It's a good lens. I had one when I shot Sony. My issue was that the handling balance isn't great due to how heavy it is (~1,800g) and how far out it trombones. If it's my money, I go with the XF 150-600 or adapt a Canon EF or Nikon FX lens (e.g., Sigma or Tamron 100-400 or one of the Nikon FX PF lenses).
You will have a different type of handling balance with the 150-600, and its basically too dark for my liking unfortunately. I had the RF 100-400 on the R5 and it was basically at iso12.8k a lot of the time in winter, and it was daylight hours!. So for me the 150-500 having 5.6 @400 will make it super useful and I removed the collar on the 150-500 when used on my A7IV and hand-held was easy, it was basically around 350gr more than the XF100-400 without foot, so not huge or heavy. Its easy to store/transport and carry around too, just so portable. No way that I see the 150-600 as proposition in the UK, plus its big. My first test will definitely be with the 150-500 on the X-H2.
Keep us posted 👍.
