Is the AF performance of the EOS RP sufficient for taking photos of young kids moving around? Reviews say that the tracking AF is good, but it's clearly not up to the level of the new R7 and R10, or even the Fuji cameras that I previously owned. Can I get decent results with the kit lens?

There's a lot that I like about the RP, and for action shots of my grandkids Im just as likely to pull out my phone to be honest. But I would like to be able to use eye detect AF now and then with moving subjects, and my experience so far has not been good.

I'm looking to keep the initial cost for a kit under $2,000. RP with the kit lens and the 50/1.8, or R10 with 18-150 and 35mm/1.8.

It really has become amazing how good camera phones have gotten over the last decade. The RP was Canons cheapest full framer. its also a few years behind the R7/R10 bodies. Safe to say any camera today will out preform the RP, just a fact of electronics.

As far as image quality, newer cameras will most likely not show much improvement in the images in real life. Just features in the body. I dont think lenses has a LOT of influence on autofocus or tracking. Fast glass helps of course but with mirrorless, the AF sensors are now on the image sensor itself.
