What is the typical focal lenght to get good photos on a whale watch boat?
On my next trip in California I would like to travel light and take only 16-55 zoom and 90 as mid tele. Do I need 100-400 or I can take good photo with the other two lenses?
For sure there will be sightings far away so you probably will wish you had a telephoto.
They can also get really close to your boat too. I've had some swim under. This is a lot less common, maybe more common with dolphins.
I definitely bring the 100-400. If you're willing to buy the 70-300 that might be a good compromise for a lighter kit.
