Strange Tamron 17-70mm vignetting

Tamron me dijo que era un problema de Adobe. Porque solo existe el problema con el software de Adobe.

Adobe ha registrado el problema.

Estamos esperando una solución.

Although Adobe has been made aware, in the Adobe community forum, of the double vignetting error of the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 lens for Fuji, nothing has changed in the latest version of LR, ACR or PS.

If you are thinking of buying this lens and you edit with Adobe software, I give you a recommendation: WAIT, the bug is still there.

Six months after the strange vignetting of the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 when shooting with Fujifilm at 17mm f2.8 was announced on the Adobe forum, Adobe has not fixed the problem.

Is the lens profile info dependent on focal length? My guess is yes. So what if in that case the lens reports the incorrect focal length and as such the wrong correction curve is applied?

I can’t imagine the “corrections” being applied to be appropriate for any lens. Something is either very corrupted in the firmware data to begin with, or there is glitch in translating the metadata into actual image correction.

Who says it’s Adobe’s fault? Adobe didn’t produce the lens correction data, Tamron did, it’s contained in the lens firmware and has nothing to do with Adobe. As Adobe doesn’t seem to be producing these kinds of issues with any other lenses, I’m thinking the issue is with the lens firmware, not Adobe’s processing. Besides, if I apply the corrections using Iridient X-Transformer, I get the same weird error as when Lightroom does it. Talk to Tamron about a lens firmware update.
I say it. If the error does not appear with other software, the problem is with the software in which the error appears.

Not all other software use the lens-based firmware corrections by default - Capture One and DxO in particular. Have you confirmed that there is no issue with other software using the Manufacturer’s correction profile and not their own?

Neither Fujifilm's software, nor Capture One, nor Darkrable, nor Affinity Photo give the double vignetting problem.

But have you tried them with the built-in Manufacturer's profile? Lightroom uses it by default, but other software does not.

Also, I've got a few RAWs on my computer from other Tamron 17-70s with no vignetting issues at all in Lightroom.

How do I apply the manufacturer profile in LR? The vignetting does not appear in all my photographs either and when it appears it is a few moments after importing it into LR. The photo looks good and LR does something and vignetting appears. Thanks for your help.

I just tested your shared RAF in darktable using the embedded metadata in EXIF vs using calibrated lensfun data. The embedded metadata from the lens is indeed incorrect, it does cause the weird ring in darktable.

FWIW, the X-T4 and X-T5 are both using the new correction format that darktable has reverse-engineered :
  • Exif.Fujifilm.GeometricDistortionParams: 19 values
  • Exif.Fujifilm.ChromaticAberrationParams: 29 values
  • Exif.Fujifilm.VignettingParams: 19 values
My X-T2 is still using the old format (23-31-23 values) which darktable doesn't know how to parse, thus, I'm using my calibrated lensfun data instead.

weird ring when using the embedded metadata
weird ring when using the embedded metadata

no problem with the calibrated lensfun data
no problem with the calibrated lensfun data

Sorry but I do not get anything like that with the lens on XT3 then XH2s XH2 and Adobe ACR in PS.

Did you check FW ? are they all upgraded ? There was an upgrade for 17-70mm quite recently

When I open your file (RAF) with ACR in PS I get the weird effect. BUT when I open my own RAF files with the lens involved, everything is perfect.

So definitly there is something wrong in your combo XT4+ Tamron

Be sure you have updated both camera and lens to the latest FW. For Tamron

https://www.tamron.jp/en/support/release_note.html#camera 17/11/22 FW 2.0

For Fuji XT4 https://fujifilm-x.com/global/support/download/firmware/cameras/ FW 1.71

There is nothing wrong with the Tamron my system on differnt bodies work perfectly WIN 10 Pro Adob PS last version 24.2 ACR 15.2

I have been using the lens since its launch last year in summer and ACR in PS with XT3 then XH2s and XH2, no problem at all with the RAF files at f 2.8 125 ISO

Clearly there is something wrong in the OP combo. The first step is to check for FW upgrade both body and lens, then if not solved check the SD card. Obviously medata innthe RAF contains an error which is specific to the OP's config

Thank you for your response.

Everything is up to date:
X-T4 v1.71
17-70 v2.01
Camera Raw is the subscription version for Mac

Try different sd cards

Lightroom applies the built-in lens corrections automatically at import - and (unfortunately) it can’t be turned off.
