Re: Remember "everyting is a portrait"

I experience all the same issues with jewelry photography - the unpredictability of reflection, glare, and hots spots on shiny surfaces like gold and silver. Solid black and faceted stones are equally problematic. Every rounded stone or piece of metal has the equivalent of a shiny beetles head. I achieve the best results with continuous LED lighting. At least my subjects are in a warm and dry studio, and they aren’t moving. I don’t understand the principals of how artificial lighting illuminates different materials, textures and colors, and any excellent result I get is achieved by trial and error, which is to say by luck.
