Can I use any USB-C cable for tethered shooting? (Sony A7R3)

Hello, been reading up, but still not clear if one must use a special cable for tethering like the one often recommended by Tether Tools, or if I can use any high quality USB-C cable?

If I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong), the Sony A7R3 takes USB-C for tethering so if my Macbook Pro has USB-C, then I'd need a USB-C to USB-C cable. I have lots of these around, so would rather not spend the money, unless it's needed or worth it. The Tether Tools cable is a bit pricey.

2nd question is whether the camera connector is likely to change if I upgrade my camera. If I do wind up investing in an expensive tether cable, might the Sony A7RV or any other new models use a different connector?

3rd question, the last posts/videos I read on tethering the Sony A7R3 required special software from Sony (free I believe) and/or paying for special software/lighroom plugins. Is this still necessary in 2022, and do the newer cameras also have this problem? Or is it just a Sony A7R3 issue?

Cheers,

R
