R7 - Breathing new life into my MPE-65
5

I’ve been very lucky in life where my eyesight is concerned. Up until I was 49 I never needed glasses. I was still able to swap the iPhone screen on my daughters phone whenever she broke another one with ease, those tiny screws were no issue. Two years later and my close up vision has dimmed somewhat and I am now in the early stages of needing reading glasses. Fortunately my long distance vision is still perfect.

For macro this had become a bit of a problem. I tend to use flash and manual focus whatever the lens as I can pick my spot better than the AF can. But recently this has become an increasing challenge, especially above 2* magnification. The viewfinder on the 80D is just not as bright as the 7D/7D2 was and that makes a difference. So along comes the EVF and it really is a game changer. The viewfinder makes the whole experience less of a challenge. I can now see exactly where the focus is, even at 5* on the MPE65. Currently I only have the one R7 but when availability is better I will add a second, dedicated to macro. In the short term I will carry the 80D for my 60mm as I can still use that fine, but use the R7 when the MPE65 is my lens of choice.
