If you can't transfer a lens mount screw into the empty thread, the lens may have suffered drop damage and the thread broke out.

If that is indeed a kens mount screw, you might be better of getting a new lens.

It's one of the weak spots that the 28-70 has. The lensmount is mounted dircetly to one of the inside parts. It's a plastic tube and it's not very strong.

I had another copy a few years ago, that broke complete at the lensmount and that inner tube. Mount was still on the camera and the other parts of the lens were gone (it also broke all the wiringloom/flatcables.

.....Of course I'm out of my mind. It's dark and scary in there.....
