If I’m gonna have a camera as big as the R7, I might as well just switch to full frame.

You’re right. With basically the same grip, the R7 feels just like its bigger brethren. I don’t notice much difference at all (in handling) when shooting.

I don’t understand the point of a cropped R body.

It’s more ideal for focal-length limited situations, like birding and for me, macros. I use the largish RF 100mm Macro on it and add my bulky twin LED rig (or my bulky MT-26EX-RT twinflash) and those setups are LARGE. The big grip really helps with that. Plus I get the added 1.6x crop (vs FF) which is about perfect for me.

The main thing I wish the R7 had is a nice tilting LCD like the M6ii (the flip-out is just too cumbersome IMHO), and if I could get rid of the EVF I would (the back protrudes way too much and blocks the LCD when I’m looking down at it).

The M series is just perfect. Its light and compact.

Agree with you there. For small, light, and inexpensive, it can’t be beat. Plus it’s still extremely capable!

The R series can’t even touch them I terms of size and weight.

Just different purposes! I’m glad to have so many options.

Happy shooting!

Yeah I guess my point is... there's still a place for the M line to exist in Canon's lineup. It's really nothing like their other models, so I don't think they have to worry about the R7/R10 cannibalizing the M cameras. Plus, people love the M series for blogging!
